Ostap Nestor (Nes) Kotyk of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the age of 75 years. Nes is survived by his two sons, Sheldon (Julie) Kotyk and Scott Kotyk; brothers, Ernest (Harmony) Kotyk and Danny (Peggy) Kotyk. Giving him incredible joy were his grandchildren, Kristin, Ava, and Jamie Kotyk, and Zoë DeNobrega. He was predeceased by his parents, Steve and Nellie Kotyk (Skoretz). Nes was born in Canora, Saskatchewan. He went to school in Buchanan and helped on the family farm. He worked in banking but retail was his calling. His stores carried electronics, musical instruments, books, and health foods in various locations including Winnipeg, Manitoba, Estevan, Saskatchewan, Squamish, British Columbia, Medicine Hat, Alberta, and Lethbridge, Alberta. He loved his customers and would spend hours with them, talking about current events, his faith, and anything else people wanted to discuss. Nes enjoyed hockey and slowpitch, and played as long as his body would allow. In the summer he could be seen with his family on the lake water skiing. He was involved with Youth for Christ, Hockey Ministries International, and leading Sunday School classes. We would love to send a huge thank you to those that cared for Nes in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital 5E. You made the time we had with him very special.
