Canada falls to Serbia 95-86 in basketball World Cup semifinal

MANILA, Philippines — Canada lost to Serbia 95-86 in the semifinals of the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup on Friday.

The Canadian team will play either the United States or Germany in Sunday’s bronze-medal game, while Serbia will play in the gold-medal match.

Canada has never won a medal at the world championships.

The country’s previous best result at the tournament were a pair of sixth-place finishes in 1978 and 1982.

Canada qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday with an 88-85 comeback victory over top-ranked defending champion Spain.

Canada’s men’s team hasn’t played at the Summer Games since the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
