Bandits take on European hockey teams at U20 Super Challenge

KARLSTAD, Sweden – The Brooks Bandits have trekked to Sweden for the U20 Super Challenge in Karlstad, Sweden.

The Bandits started their tournament with a win on Sunday against a Swedish team. Brand new coach Dakota Mason says playing and watching the European teams is a key learning opportunity for the Bandits. The Bandits are the only Canadian team being invited because of their past success.

Mason says the super challenge has already been a great ice-breaker and team bonding opportunity before the regular season. He adds that the Bandits’ drive to win hasn’t slowed down.

“Our expectation is always to win, that goes hand in hand with the Brooks Bandits organization. Obviously, number two is getting the team ready and prepared for for the upcoming season as well,” Mason says.

He adds, “this is a good measuring stick for the returning players, some of the new guys as well to kind of see where they’re at. Also we’re enjoying ourselves. I mean, it’s not too often that you get a chance to come to Sweden and play against the bunch of teams like this.”

Tomorrow the Bandits will face Norway in game number 2 at 11:15 a.m. MST.
