George Aaserud
1945 ~ 2023
George Andreas Aaserud passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital while surrounded by his girls on Tuesday, March 7th, 2023. George was born August 10, 1945, in Hanna, Alberta, a son to Alice and Olaf Aaserud. He was raised on the family farm at Craigmyle. Dad loved everything about farming and agriculture. His early days were spent attending school at Princeton, Craigmyle and graduating high school from Delia. Dad spoke fondly of his early days growing up on the farm. He loved working on cars, machinery, and raising crops. Dad spoke often of how proud he was to win third place in the Royal Winter Fair for his crops project. Dad graduated from Olds College with a diploma in Agriculture and started his career with the Alberta Wheat Pool. He moved to the Oyen area, met and married Bonnie Wagstaff in 1971. They moved to their farm at Craigmyle in 1973, where they lived, raising their girls until 1997 when they moved to Hanna. Dad’s love of agriculture led him to a career as an Agriculture Fieldman working for Special Areas for 25 years. While working there, Dad met and made many friends. He was very involved in the Agricultural Fieldman’s Association and enjoyed mentoring new colleagues into the profession. Dad enjoyed sharing his knowledge and loved participating in the Hanna Fall Fair. Following Mom’s death in 2013, Dad joined his girls in Irvine, Alberta spending time with Tarolyn, Shandi, Jill and Kara. Dad was always up for an adventure with his girls. He could be found in a golf cart with Tarolyn, around a campfire visiting, and behind the glass coaching his girls curling. Dad loved going to auction sales and meeting new friends… he never met a stranger and became fast friends with all. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Bonnie; parents, Olaf and Alice and a sister, Valena. He will be missed by his daughters, Tarolyn (James), Shandi (Dwayne), Jill (Richard) and Kara (Daniel); grandchildren, Tyla, Tayven, Trae-Lyn, Zach, Cameron, Ava, Nolan and Ali; sister-in-law, Debra (Allan); brothers-in-law, Barry (Juanita) and Lloyd (Louise) as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Dad’s life at the Craigmyle Historic Church, Craigmyle, Alberta on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. The family has requested donations be made directly to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (JDRF) donorsupport@jdrf.ca or a charity of donor’s choice in Dad’s Memory.
