George Schile
1941 ~ 202
It is with heavy hearts that the family of George Sylvester Schile announce his peaceful passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the age of 81 years. George was born in Medicine Hat on April 27, 1941. He attended school in Conquerville until grade 8, when like many others in that era, he was called to duty to work on the family farm. George married the love of his life, Yvonne Renee Schile (nee Ovard) on June 22, 1963, at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. Music was his passion especially strumming the strings playing the banjo! George enjoyed curling, golf, cars and spending time having coffee at A&W. He was mechanically inclined and even invented a straw spreader and a barb wire rolling machine. “He could fix anything” claims his family, and this was evident in George’s receipt of the Alberta Century Award in recognition of 100 years of family farming. Although a pioneer in the farming world, he was always caught up with all the newest farming equipment. Raising chickens was something George really enjoyed and was even refered to by the people who knew him as “Chicken George”. George was a wonderful man and he leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Darrin Schile (Tracy Roberts); daughter, Tracy (Jan) Johnson; granddaughters, Jayda and Gina Johnson, Tiffany Schile, Megan (Kris) Wagstaff and Danielle Schile (Calvin Aman); great-grandchildren, Carter, Logan and Lily Wagstaff and Sienna Bellotto; brother, John (Raymonde) Schile; sister, Joanne Rich; nephews, Paul (Tawnya) Schile, Rene Schile (Emily Moger), Denis Schile, Dan (Colleen) Topolovec and Pat Topolovec; niece, Nicole Schile (Chris Nelson); great-nieces, Zoe and Eva Schile, Maya and Brooke Topolovec and great-nephews, Benjamin Schile, Jeremy Schile John Topolovec. George was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne Schile; parents, Joseph and Johanna Schile; in-laws, Clinton and Alice Ovard as well as his two pet dogs, Tico and Tattoo. George’s life will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating.
