Katie Wiebe
April 15, 1926 ~ November 23, 2022
Mrs. Katie Wiebe of Medicine Hat, gently and peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus at the South Country Village in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the age of 96 years. Katie longed to see Jesus for a very long time and now she is with Him in glory. She was born to Henry and Agnes Wieler on April 15, 1926, in Orenburg, Russia and shortly thereafter, her family immigrated to Canada. In 1947, Katie married John Wiebe and as they began their family, they were committed to provide a Christian home where Christ was always the center. John and Katie successfully owned K and W Bakery in Taber, Alberta, where their famous pastries quickly became a hit. After many years of baking, they decided to settle down in Medicine Hat. Katie was a delight to everyone with her beautiful smile and her helping hand to anyone in need. Grandma Katie is adored by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will lovingly be remembered always by her three girls: Shirley Dixon, Myrna Blodgett, and Frances Friesen. She was predeceased by her husband, John Wiebe; first great-granddaughter, Mary Spurlock and first grandson, Wayne Dixon. We look forward to a grand reunion in heaven! Although Katie’s memory faded near the end, the memory of her Savior was always present. God’s Word was hidden in her heart and a smile was always on her face when she heard her favorite hymns being sung. One of her favorites was, “I Am Going to a City Where the Roses Never Fade.” Many thanks to all of the staff at Sunnyside Home, who so kindly cared for Katie in her last years. A Graveside Service will take place at Hillside Cemetery on Monday, November 28, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat between 2:40 p.m. and 2:50 p.m. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at www.cooksouthland.com) Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, Crematorium & Reception Facility, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4V4. telephone 403-527-6455
