Shirley Dyer
1935 – 2022
Shirley May Dyer passed away peacefully on November 14, 2022, at the age of 87 years with family by her side.
Shirley was born in Davis Point, MB to Elmer and Edith Hornick and was the last survivor of her 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
At age 17, she left the family homestead on the shore of Lake Manitoba for the bright lights of Winnipeg and worked as a nurses’ aid at the Misericordia Children’s Hospital. Shirley later joined the Air Force where she became a Medic A.
At the age of 31, she met the love of her life, Bill Dyer. After four short months they were married and moved to a farm near Rivers, Manitoba. In 1993, they moved to Bigstone, Alberta, eventually retiring in Medicine Hat.
Shirley’s heart was broken when Bill passed away in August of 2002. We take comfort in knowing they are together again taking long walks hand in hand as they so often used to do.
Shirley had a close relationship with the Lord and throughout her life enjoyed volunteering her time with the local church organizing youth programs, writing and directing Christmas plays, and helping out wherever needed.
Shirley is survived by her children, Sandi Reimer and Kevin Dyer (Sandra); grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Dyer, and grandson, Barry Reimer.
A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.
