MEDICINE HAT, AB — Prior to the pandemic, a long weekend was a perfect opportunity for some Canadians to take a quick trip across the border to do some shopping.

COVID changed all that, but the Canada Border Services Agency is expecting a busier weekend at land borders this Labour Day weekend.

There are some things to make your return to Canada as quick and easy as possible.

First and foremost, remember the hours of operation at the Wild Horse crossing are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

Lisa White with the Canada Border Services Agency says filling out the ArriveCan app 72 hours before getting back to the Canadian border will also make things go faster.

“If everyone has their ArriveCan completed before they get to the booth it just goes faster for everybody,” says White.

“Having your documents in hand, your receipts if that’s applicable, just being ready to have that interaction with the officer at the booth when you pull up,” advises White.

Random testing at land borders was suspended mid-July, but travellers completing the ArriveCan forms will be asked about proof of vaccination and a quarantine plan should it be required.

White says it’s a good idea to take a screenshot of the confirmation code for your smartphone, in case you’re not in cellphone range.
