EDMONTON – Anglers who love to fish in southwest areas of Alberta will have to adhere to some new restrictions that are coming into effect on Saturday.

The restrictions, which are called “time of day” restrictions, mean no fishing can take place between 2 p.m. and 12 a.m. each day at specified locations. The restrictions are aimed at protecting fish in southern Alberta during periods of low flows and higher temperatures.

According to a news release from Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP), the restrictions will be in place until Aug. 31.

The release also states that it is up to every angler to know the sportfishing regulations of the water bodies they intend to fish. Specific details on the restrictions, including a map, can be found on the My Wild Alberta website.
