Two youths bitten by dogs at Lethbridge camp

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service is investigating a pair of dog attacks.

Just before noon on July 13, two pit bulls were reported loose and unattended in the schoolyard of Dr. Gerald B. Probe Elementary School in the 100 block of Rocky Mountain Boulevard West.

An eight-year-old boy was attending a summer camp in the school yard at the time. One of the dogs approached the boy and bit him in the face.

A 17-year-old girl, who was working at the summer camp, was bitten on the arm when she tried to intervene and protect the boy.

Both were taken to hospital by EMS and were treated for their injuries.

Other attendees at the summer camp were escorted to safety.

One of the dogs was found to be back in the care of its owner, but the other left the scene.

LPS and Community Animal Services (CAS) found the second dog in the backyard of a home on the 200 block of Mount Rundle Road West at approximately 1:15 p.m. LPS is thanking the public for their help in finding it.

Both dogs, who have the same owner, have been seized and are in the custody of CAS, which is investigating the incident. All inquiries should be directed to CAS.
