James “Jim” Nelson Hirsch, beloved husband of the late Jean “Phyllis” Hirsch, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, April 29, 2022, the day of his 95th birthday. He leaves to cherish his memory five children, Clayton (Glenna) Hirsch, Gail (Perry) Marr, Byron (Leslie) Hirsch, Janis (Donald) Bilyk, Sandy (Jamie) McIntosh and nine grandchildren, Bryce Hirsch, Corby (Sarah) Hirsch and their children, Elodie, Aubrey, and William; Derek (Ashley) Hirsch and their children, Sawyer and Emery; James (Kim) Hirsch and their children, Thomas and Charles; Mark Hirsch (Kristin Giovenazzo), Dustin Bilyk, Jeffrey Bilyk (Tracy Sundquist), Kayla (Katrina) Bilyk-Rolph, Breane (Clark) Andrews and their children Hudson and Blake; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Jean “Phyllis” Hirsch; his parents, Johanna and Joseph Hirsch; two brothers, Kasper (Helen) Hirsch and John (Margaret) Hirsch; two sisters, Bregitta (Tony) Grimm and Theresa (Ralph) Pater.
Jim was an educator (Principal, Webster Niblock) from 1967 to 1986. He served as an Alderman for three terms and assisted with many organizations and committees to support his city. Jim closed his final chapter with a book full of tremendous accomplishments and memories he was very proud of. His legacy will live on through his family, students and community members whose lives he touched.
Jim’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Sunnyside Nursing Home for the excellent care he received.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant, Pat Grisonich. The service will be live streamed, and family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to watch the service by searching for the Pattison Funeral Home YouTube page. The video will go live 10 minutes prior to service time and will remain on the YouTube page for future viewing. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery.
