1940 – Pat Enslen – 2022
Dorothy Patricia “Pat” Enslen, beloved wife of the late Jacob Enslen, passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the age of 82 years. Pat’s kind, humorous spirit will be missed by all who knew her but especially by her three daughters, Lynann (Greg) Kerr of Medicine Hat, Tanya Enslen (Robert Robie) of Aliso Viejo, California, Tricia (Orin) Maxwell of Lethbridge and her five grandchildren, Dana Kerr, Colin Kerr, Morgan Maxwell, Cooper Robie and Cameron Robie. Pat is also survived by her eight siblings, several in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her cherished husband Jack, Pat was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Ethel Homister, a sister, Marilyn and a brother, Ted.
Pat was born in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan on Easter Sunday, March 23, 1940. She soon made her way to the big city of Edmonton where she worked as a nanny and ultimately completed her training as a nursing aid. It was during one of her work terms in Medicine Hat that she met Jack, on a blind date none the less! They married on November 1, 1965 and she moved to the farm south of Seven Persons. The couple worked long hours raising Angus cattle, chickens and even rabbits along with farming to grow feed for all the animals. Pat loved to garden which resulted in her becoming very gifted in canning, baking and cooking so that nothing was ever wasted. In the late 1990’s, due to Jacks illness, the couple moved to Medicine Hat where Pat continued her passion for gardening, joined a lovely church where she was a preschool teacher and made many new friends.
Pat discovered that she loved to travel and made many trips to Vancouver and Southern California. She enjoyed visiting Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo and seeing whales off the coastline of Laguna Beach. In addition to spending time with friends and family, Pats constant companions during this time were her sweet dog, Daisy and her indifferent cat, Kitty.
Pat lived in Lethbridge for the last few years, first with her daughter, Tricia and later in an amazing care home that treated her with dignity and respect. A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet inside the main gate to the cemetery by 1:45 p.m. In honour of Pat, the family requests that you plant a tree or a flower in her memory and that you treat the earth and each other with kindness, always.
