It is with a heavy heart that Joyce announces the passing of her beloved husband, Robert G. Strachan at River Ridge Seniors Village, in Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the age of 97 years. Bob was born, raised and schooled in Edmonton and graduated from Eastwood High School. At the age of 18 years, Bob joined the Navy training in Comox, B.C. for combined operations. They were trained to take troops across the English Channel to Juneau Beach on June 6, 1944. Following his time in the Navy, he worked the majority of his life in the oil industry. Bob worked tirelessly for the community starting as an equipment manager for Medicine Hat Minor Hockey. This lead him to be the president of Medicine Hat Minor Hockey which led to being Zone 1 Director for Hockey Alberta. Bob enjoyed volunteering for both the summer and winter games. Following retirement, Bob spent many, many hours volunteering for the Medicine Hat Food Bank and was President of the Umbrella Society. One of Bob’s most memorable times in his life was when he and Joyce were able to travel back to Juneau Beach to celebrate the 60th anniversary of D-Day. Along with Joyce, his beloved wife of 72 years, Bob’s memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of his children; Donna (Bruce) Rieger, Barbara† (Tom) Rieger and Bill (Kelly) Strachan; grandchildren, Heather (Rick) Bach, their children, Madison, Shelby and Kailey; Brian† (Jennifer) Rieger, their children, Brody and Georgia; Cole and Joshua Rieger; Justin and Cody Strachan as well as Chris, Jeremy and Brett Lonson.
