City reviewing swimming programs as spring registration approaches

Mar 14, 2022 | 11:27 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Spring swimming registration is coming soon and city staff are continuing their review of waitlists and capacity.

In December the city reopened its swimming waitlist registration to learn which classes and times are most in-demand and ideal for parents.

Nearly 800 more registrations resulted, according to Scott Richter, manager of business and interim recreation and leisure manager for parks and recreation. The majority of parents and guardians are looking to book their kids in our Preschool 3 class, in Swim Kids 1 and Swim Kids 2 classes.

The was able to add two Swim Kids 1 classes beginning this spring. The classes were filled by those currently on the waitlist, which the city says was the intent of opening up the waitlist spots late last year.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to sign up for waitlist classes so the city can better plan for future classes.

Richter says city staff are exploring ways to increase swim lesson offerings for the summer and fall, including city programs and working with the YMCA and the Town of Redcliff.
