The family of John Thomas Wright are saddened to announce his passing in Medicine Hat on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the age of 87 years. Tom will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Sharon; children, Bonnie (Gil), Murray, Shelley (Curtis); six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Muriel and Carol as well as numerous extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Lilly. Tom was a Mr. Fixit person and this quality was demonstrated during his early years fixing vehicles and equipment on the family farm and while he attended Tech (SAIT) to train as a mechanic. His skill led to a 30 year career as a mechanic with the City of Medicine Hat. Family, friends and neighbours often benefitted from Tom’s talents as he was always willing and able to lend a helping hand. Family was very important to Tom and he provided a wonderful life for his family. He was always happy to visit with extended family and excelled in his role of “Grandpa”. Hobbies of Tom’s included camping, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, building and inventing things, biking and walking in the parks of Medicine Hat, gardening, raising cattle and spending time at the farm. The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the staff at River Ridge Senior’s Village for their care and compassion. Thanks also to Dr. Jeraj and Dr. Alphin. A private celebration of Tom’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
