MEDICINE HAT, AB – The South East Hill Neighbourhood Association is bringing warmth and chocolatey sweetness together in an effort to forge greater community.

Every Sunday until the end of February from 2 to 4 p.m. the association will be handing out free hot chocolate at Kiwanis Central Park for those passing by or taking in the outdoor rink or park.

Jase Cowan, chair of the South East Hill Neighbourhood Association said the goal is to get people more connected with their neighbours.

“I think it is important just to give people places where they can talk to there neighbours and be outside, and come into contact with each other. It is really difficult in the winter, and the pandemic certainly hasn’t helped,” he said.

Cowan said the South East Hill Neighbourhood Association formed three years ago by a group of residents who really cared about the neighbourhood.

“This is a great neighbourhood on the Southeast Hill and we wanted people to be able to connect with each other. It is a unique neighbourhood, with a variant group of people in it and we want people to get to know each other, and have good information so they know what is going on,” he said.

Funding for the hot chocolate was made possible through a grant from the City of Medicine Hat.
