Redcliff RCMP want to Stuff the Cruiser for the Root Cellar

REDCLIFF, AB – RCMP in Redcliff are increasing their community outreach programs and starting with their Stuff the Cruiser event next week.

On Dec. 17 from 1-6 p.m., an RCMP cruiser will be parked at the Family Foods store in Redcliff.

People are encouraged to drop off food and cash donations in support of the Root Cellar, formerly the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank.

“It’s really important to us that families have an enjoyable Christmas holiday season and that no one is left hungry. So whatever we can do to help our community we’re going to do that,” says Sgt. Al Rivard, acting detachment commander. “And I’m hoping that this is the first of many community events and fundraising that we can do throughout the next years to come.”

Some of the Root Cellar’s most needed items are sugar, pasta, canned meats and hygiene products.

“We’re going to try to pack the police car as full as we can from floor to roof and we’ll take cash donations as well if people want to donate cash,” Rivard adds. “And then we’re going to drive the car if we can, hopefully I can’t fit in the car to drive it down, but we’re going to take all the donations down to the root cellar afterwards.”

Donations can also be dropped off at the RCMP detachment between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. until Dec. 17.
