1936 ~ 2021
Bernard ‘Ben’ John Hopfauf beloved husband of the late Bertha Hopfauf passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, Medicine Hat, AB., on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the age of 85 years. Ben was born on January 15, 1936, in Abbey, SK., and raised on the farm North of Lancer, SK. He attended school at Ararat Country School. Ben married Bertha Eileen Getz on July 17, 1962, in Lancer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He worked for many years at the Credit Union Bank in Lancer as the Assistant Branch Manager. Ben was a great volunteer in his community of Lancer. He loved to watch all sports on T.V. Ben played ball in his younger years and then umpired ball into his later years, as well he always found time for a round of golf or two. Ben was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in Lancer. Some of the greatest achievements in Ben’s life was attending the Blue Jay’s game in Toronto, an Alaskan Cruise and living long enough to see his great-grandchildren. Ben’s memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of his children, Bradley (Sharon), Bernadette (Garth), Belinda (Steve); grandchildren, A.J., Carly (Nathan), Dusty (Tori), Kellie (Brandon), Russell (Matt), Nik, Kailey; great-grandchildren, Ava, Clara, Maren, Cohen; sister, Betty Blevins and sisters-in-law, Betty Hopfauf and Marlene Hopfauf. Ben was predeceased by his wife, Bertha; brothers, Alex, Peter (Irene), Frank (Agnes), Tony; sisters, Mary (John) Thome. A Celebration of Ben’s life will be held in the Spring of 2022 in Lancer.
