Douglas Edward Kennedy, beloved husband of Kathy, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the age of 71 years. Along with Kathy, Doug’s memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of his children, Sean (Tricia) Kennedy and Laurie Kennedy (Neelan Naidoo); grandchildren, Eric Kennedy and Emma Kennedy; siblings, Chick (Denise) Kennedy, Don (Wendy) Kennedy, Teri (Glen) Brockoff, Sam (Barb) Kennedy, Ted Kennedy, Scott (Darlene) Kennedy, Dale (Debbie) Kennedy, Jackie (Kim) Gerbig, Max Kayfish and Dave Brown as well as Kathy’s siblings, Earl (Connie) Oswell, Dianne (Dennis) Harrison, Marilyn (Carson) Baldwin, Darwin Oswell, Lionel (Deb) Oswell and Jennifer Dase. Doug was predeceased by his father, Thomas Kennedy; mother, Flora Kennedy (nee Southern); step-mother, Theresa Kennedy (nee Lucier); sisters, Candy Brown and Joy Kayfish; parents-in-law, Walter and Marjorie Oswell as well as his brothers-in-law, Calvin Oswell and Brent Dase. Doug was born in Prince Albert, SK and raised in Leask, SK and Neilburg, SK. He married Kathy Oswell on October 30, 1971, at the Lloydminster Anglican Church. Doug was a journeyman gasfitter and worked in the oil and gas industry as an operator. For the past 15 years, he worked with a friend at Alleycat Garbage Disposal Ltd. His favourite teams to watch play were the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Toronto Blue Jays. Doug loved to laugh as he was very witty and loved to joke around. He also loved to give everyone he knew nicknames as a term of endearment. Doug was always willing to lend a hand to friends and family with any odd jobs that they needed help with. His most memorable occasions were when his two grandchildren, Eric and Emma were born. Time spent with family and friends meant the most to Doug… he will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him! Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in place, the service honouring Doug’s life will be by invitation only. Doug’s Celebration will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Zinger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
