Elza Marie Kehn of Medicine Hat passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the age of 95 years, beloved wife of the late Arthur Kehn. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Anita Hyde and Ed (Debbie) Kehn; six grandchildren, Troy, Melanie, Jessica, Justin, Heather and Jason; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Kehn on June 17, 1993; three sons, Arnold, Cliff and Ron; one granddaughter, Sherry; her parents, Anna and Honari Bekaert and her sister, Mary .
Elza was born on July 29, 1926, in Wetteren, Belgium where she married Arthur Kehn on November 18, 1947. She came to Canada as a war bride and taught herself English. She was a member of the Medicine Hat War Brides, the Dutch Club Medicine Hat and was a Sergeant At Arms with the Ladies Auxiliary Robertson Memorial Branch #17, Medicine Hat. Elza worked at Nutone Cleaners then moved on to housekeeping at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. A quiet, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, but mostly her family. She had a passion for cooking and family gatherings and had a fondness for animals especially her companions at home, Skippy ad Duke. Her strong Christian faith was a comfort to her her whole life.
A private family funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Due to the restrictions brought forward by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, indoor public gatherings are to be kept to 50 people. Masks are mandatory. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Elza with a donation, may do so to the Royal Canadian Legion, 702 2 St SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 0E1.
