1938 – Marion Schmidt – 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom Marion Schmidt on October 20, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Home Medicine Hat at the age of 82 years, just shy of 83. Marion was born on November 11, 1938 at Leader, Saskatchewan to Edward and Melita Gramlich, the second youngest of five children. Marion is survived by three children Robert, Cheryl and Peter (Andrea); three grandchildren Danica, Crystal (Richard Gauilbaut) and Payten; three great grandchildren Everly, Alorha and Freya; one brother Edward Gramlich as well as many nieces and nephews, her special friend Rod Seitz and dear friends Maggie and Betty. Marion was predeceased by her parents Edward an Melita Gramlich; her husband Peter; two sisters, Annie and Tillie; two brothers, Joe and George; sisters-in-law Bonnie, Hilda, Barbara, Anna Marie, Mary, Betty, Caroline and Cecile; brothers-in-law Mike, George, Ronald, Joe, Leon, Dan and Adam. Mom was a very loving person and loved all her family and friends and had all fond memories. She worked hard all her life farming and being one of the best cooks for a countless number of farm hands plus raising her three children. She had a special place in her heart for her granddaughters Danica, Crystal and Payten and extreme joy for her three great granddaughters, Everly, Alorha and Freya (9 months old) whom she was able to see this past July. Mom loved Bingo and often said, “They’d set me up….then nothing.” In her earlier years she loved going to Las Vegas for the Casino’s and concerts (Charlie Pride). She also loved her country music, going to dances, watching soap operas and Jeopardy as well as TV movies. She will be so missed for her late night telephone calls with her daughter Cheryl, face timing with hergrand babes who were so intrigued by their great grandma. She also had a special bond with her nieces Cecilia, Emma, Rhonda, Theresa and Karen. A private family celebration of her life will be held in the spring. The family would like to thank all the staff at Cypress View, all her doctors and nurses at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and everyone at St. Joseph’s Home during her final days. God Bless. “We are going to miss you mom.” Those who wish to remember Marion Schmidt with a donation may do so to the Canadian Diabetes or to A. J.’s Loan Cupboard.
