Gas and electricity rates up this month

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Both natural gas and electricity rates will rise for City of Medicine Hat utility customers this month.

The October rates were posted by the city on Friday.

The natural gas rate has been set at $4.0225 per gigajoule, up from $3.380 in September.

The fixed rate for 2021 is $3.50 per GJ.

Electricity customers will pay 10.575 cents per kilowatt-hour this month, up from 10.410 per kilowatt-hour in September.

The fixed rate offered by the city is 6.800 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The monthly rates are determined based on the average set by other providers in the province.

The natural gas price is in the middle of the $4.079 set by Direct Energy and the $3.972 set by Apex (formerly AltaGas).

The electricity price falls between the high of 10.730 cents set by Epcor (Edmonton) and the 10.384 cents set by Enmax.
