City closures for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Sep 28, 2021 | 4:47 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Certain City of Medicine Hat facilities will be closed on Thursday as the city formally observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

City Hall will be closed to the public, as will Co-op Place and the Esplanade. The Medicine Hat Public Library is also closed.

The Family Leisure Centre will only be open to the public from noon to 5 p.m.

Medicine Hat Transit will operate on regular hours on September 30th and garbage pickup will continue to maintain the schedule. The landfill will also be open.

The Medicine Hat Mall will be open regular hours.

Town Hall in Redcliff, public buildings and the library will be closed.

The federal government announced this summer that Sept. 30, also known as Orange Shirt Day, would be a statutory holiday for all federal employees.

Alberta has not adopted it as a stat holiday, leaving municipalities, businesses and other groups to make their own decisions.

The Miywasin Friendship Centre will host a ceremony to honour the residential school survivors and remember those lost. It will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park.
