1950 ~ Harry Newman ~ 2021
Harry Newman of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the age of 71 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Caroline (Kory) Brost of Saskatoon, her mother Alex Dinsdale; two grandchildren, Clark and Hannah Brost both of Saskatoon; his brother, Peter Kelsey of Rochdale, U.K.; his sister, Susan (Steve) Baker of Romford, U.K.; and one sister-in-law, Vivian Kelsey of Chester, U.K. He was predeceased by his parents, Hilda and Harry Newman and step-father Stan Ditchett; one brother, Michael Kelsey; and one sister-in-law, Maureen Kelsey. Harry (Aitch) Newman joined the RAMC (Royal Army Medical Corps) in 1971. He trained as a Registered Nurse and travelled to many parts of the world during his 24 years of service. In 1977, he married Alex Dinsdale and together they had one daughter, Caroline Jane, who was the apple of his eye. He did two tours of active service in Northern Ireland in the early 70’s and received his LSGC (Long Service and Good Conduct) medal towards the end of his career. In 1990, he was posted to BATUS which became his final tour as he retired from the Army and settled in Medicine Hat. He worked for St John Ambulance for a number of years during which time he was invested into the Order and also received The Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005.
During his time in Canada Harry was actively involved in a number of different groups and activities. He could be found working with the ski patrol at Hidden Valley Ski Hill, volunteering for first aid coverage for a number of different events, playing in both pool and dart leagues, and could often be found at the pub ready to share a story and a pint. He was an amazing father, grandad and friend. He was always the life and soul of any gathering and would make friends easily. He will be missed by many but remembered by all who knew him.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend.
