Douglas Bruce Cooper
May 2, 1952 – August 20, 2021
It is with profound sadness we share the news of Doug’s sudden passing on Friday August 20th, 2021 at only 69 years of age. He is loved and remembered always by the true love of his life, his wife Carolyn. He will be missed and loved as Dad and Grandpa to his children and grandchildren: Rebecca Holifield, husband Johnny and their son Gunnar; Matthew Cooper and his daughters, Emma and Caylee; Nathan Cooper and his daughter, Kiera Kajewski.
Doug was born in Trail, B.C. as the youngest son of John and Anne Cooper. Doug always referred to himself as an Army Brat, as the family was posted to several locations throughout the world during his childhood. Some of Doug’s fondest childhood memories occurred when his family was posted in Germany, as he often spoke of the adventures he and his brothers, Ron and Dave, had together. After their time in Europe, the family settled in Calgary, Alberta, where Doug attended high school and soon after began his lifelong career in the plumbing industry. During this time, Doug earned a new title as cherished Dad to his daughter Rebecca Leah, and sons Matthew Bruce Jonathon and Nathan Douglas.
As a result of Doug’s dedication and achievement in his career with Emco Corporation in Calgary, he was promoted to Branch Manager, subsequently relocating his family to Lethbridge, Alberta. Doug spent this time establishing and building relationships to eventually become an award-winning location for Emco Corporation. Through his hard work and tenacity, Doug was the recipient of several corporate awards for outstanding sales and service at every location he managed. Doug’s unwavering commitment to integrity was evident in his dedication to ensuring his children were supported in their endeavors, whether it was schooling, or their interests in swimming, soccer, and martial arts.
It was during this time in Lethbridge that Doug found his true love and confidante, Carolyn Ann. Doug recognized his heart in hers, and a true partnership was formed. As the company continued to recognize Doug’s leadership skills and his ease in forming genuine customer relationships, as well as Carolyn’s vast knowledge and dedication to service, the company relocated them as a team to the branch in Medicine Hat, Alberta in 2001. During their tenure, several lifelong business partnerships and friendships were formed. Most importantly, after five years together, Doug married his honey Carolyn on May 22, 2004. From then on, inseparable and completely in love, Doug and Carolyn continued to build their life and their home together.
After 15 successful years at the Medicine Hat location, Doug and Carolyn finally embarked upon a well-deserved retirement from their working life. It was during these wonderful golden years that Doug and Carolyn enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, Kiera Kajewski in Medicine Hat; Gunnar Holifield in Louisiana; and Emma and Caylee Cooper in Lethbridge. Each winter, Doug and Carolyn looked forward to their snowbird adventures in Arizona; exchanging snow shoveling for pool cleaning and golfing together in the sun.
Doug’s legacy will live on with the valuable personal and professional advice he imparted to those important to him, be it colleague, family, or friend. A true DIY-er, his infamous projects, both complete and in progress, will be remembered and narrated by family and friends for all time. Doug will always be missed.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Whiskey Creek, Creekside Reception room (937 13th Street SW, Medicine Hat) from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: office@pattisonfuneralhome.com subject heading: Doug Cooper, or you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com to leave a message of condolence.
