48 new cases in city, 678 in province

Medicine Hat passes 500 active COVID-19 cases, province nears 6,000

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat has reached 500.

There are 501 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Wednesday.

Medicine Hat has had 1,904 total cases – the 501 active, 1,379 recovered and there have been 24 deaths.

There are 48 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and 42 new recoveries.

The city has the third-highest cases rate per 100,000 people at 735.5. Banff is the highest at 1,144.9. Cypress County has passed Medicine Hat at 743.5

COVID-19 outbreaks are being found across the city, including at a popular nightclub, continuing care centres and the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News on Monday there are 12 COVID-19 patients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, with three of those in the ICU.

On Tuesday the City of Medicine Hat announced a COVID campaign encouraging residents 20-40 years to get vaccinated. They say the majority of cases in the city are in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people in that age group.

58.1 per cent of people in that group have received one dose, 48.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Hatters 12 and over, 71.4 have received at least one dose of vaccine and 64.3 are fully vaccinated.

62 per cent of all Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update and 55.8 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 5,933 active cases in the province, up 306 from Tuesday, and 233,160 recovered cases in the province, up 370.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 241,431.

There are 678 new cases in the province in the past 24 hours and 285 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

The 678 new cases today are the most since May 20.

There are now 184 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 48 of which are in ICU, and 2,338 deaths.

The province completed 9,215 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 7.4 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,459,338 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 77 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 68.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 65.5 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 58 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 829 active cases and 12,673 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 140.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 2-8 is 1.25. It is 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from July 19-25 the numbers were 1.48 province-wide, 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 410 cases. There are 84 active cases, 325 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 53 per cent, the two-dose rate is 46.2.

The County of Forty Mile has 161 total cases. There are three active cases, 155 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 31.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 27.6.

The MD of Taber has 590 total cases — 15 active cases, 569 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 37.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 33.9.

Special Areas No. 2 has 113 total cases – seven active cases, 105 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,559 total cases — 18 active cases and 1,526 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 260 cases — seven active cases, 250 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 45.2. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 476 total cases. There are seven active cases, 466 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 47.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 41.7.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 5,002 cases. There are 111 active cases, 4,851 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,295 cases, 22 active cases, 1,259 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 17, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 51,630 cases, 1,066 considered active. There are 49,978 recovered cases and there have been 586 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
