85 new cases in city, 501 in province

Record jump of active COVID-19 cases in Medicine Hat, at 322 total

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Medicine Hat has jumped by nearly 30 per cent in one day.

There are 322 active cases of COVID-19 in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, another record. On Tuesday the city had 252 active cases, breaking the previous record set in May.

The city accounts for about 8.5 per cent of the total active cases in the entire province.

Medicine Hat has had 1,641 total cases – the 322 active, 1,297 recovered and there have been 22 deaths.

There are 85 new cases in the city in the past 24 hours and 15 new recoveries.

One week ago Medicine Hat had 103 active cases. In total, Medicine Hat has added 258 cases in that time.

An AHS spokesperson told CHAT News that as of Monday there are 11 COVID-19 patients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, with three of those in the ICU.

Medicine Hat has 472.7 cases active cases per 100,000 people, the fourth-highest rate in Alberta. Cypress County has the third-highest rate at 504.5.

61.4 per cent of Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update. 55.1 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 3,769 active cases in the province, up 306 from Tuesday, and 231,707 recovered cases in the province, up 194.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 237,807.

There are 501 new cases in the province today, and 311 more variant of concern cases have been identified.

There are now 138 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 31 of which are in ICU, and 2,331 deaths.

The province completed 8,613 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 5.8 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,406,352 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 76.5 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 67.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 65.1 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 57.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 527 active cases and 12,524 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 138.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of Aug. 2-8 is 1.25. It is 1.09 in Calgary Zone, 1.41 in Edmonton Zone and 1.41 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from July 19-25 the numbers were 1.48 province-wide, 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 368 cases. There are 57 active cases, 310 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 52.3 per cent, the two-dose rate is 45.4.

The County of Forty Mile has 159 total cases. There are two active cases, 154 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 30.8 per cent, the two-dose rate is 27.2.

The MD of Taber has 578 total cases — three active cases, 569 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 37.7 per cent, the two-dose rate is 33.3.

Special Areas No. 2 has 109 total cases – three active cases, 105 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,542 total cases — 12 active cases and 1,515 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 256 cases — six active cases, 247 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.4 per cent, the two-dose rate is 44.1. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 471 total cases. There are two active cases, 466 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 47 per cent, the two-dose rate is 41.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,947 cases. There are 84 active cases, 4,823 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,277 cases, eight active cases, 1,255 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 10, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 50,771 cases, 682 considered active. There are 49,505 recovered cases and there have been 584 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
