Smaller Stampede parades brought smiles to retirement homes

MEDICINE HAT, AB – While the city’s streets were quiet for this year’s stampede, three other smaller parades still took place throughout the city this week.

Led by the Medicine Hat rodeo royalty, people, animals and cars made their way through three different retirement homes.

On Thursday morning, faces lit up at South Country Village and later on in the day the show made its way to Masterpiece Southland Meadows.

This morning, a ‘Kiddy Parade’ happened at River Ridge Seniors Village. Lifestyles Manager Susie Mandziak says it was their way of celebrating stampede for the residents.

“With no parade in the city, it’s just really nice we didn’t have to bus anybody down,” Mandziak said. “They can just sit here and enjoy it and the kids are enjoying it too.”

The parade is normally the kick-off to stampede.
