1927 ~ Anne O’Reilly-Barker ~ 2021
Anne O’Reilly-Barker (nee: Schmaltz), born in Prelate, Saskatchewan to Ludwig and Katie Schmaltz in 1927, passed away on July 13, 2021 at the age of 94 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Mary Jane (John) McLaughlin of Edmonton, Bernadette O’Reilly-Kavanagh of Lethbridge, Louis (Debbie) O’Reilly and Tom (Lorie) O’Reilly all of Medicine Hat; seven grandchildren, Alanna (Michael) O’Reilly-Debler, Tanner (Sarah) O’Reilly, Reilly (Christina) McLaughlin, Katlin McLaughlin, Keely Kavanagh, Nicole (Blair) O’Reilly-Hann and Tyler (Ashley) O’Reilly; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother Richard (Susan) Schmaltz of Pembrook, Ontario, one sister Eva Sutherland of Calgary, two sisters-in-law Emily Schmaltz and Loretta Schmaltz both of Medicine Hat; predeceased by her brothers, Peter, Frank, Louie, Jack, Adam and one sister Rose. Anne moved to Medicine Hat in 1948; she met and married her husband Barney (deceased 1987). She was employed with the Government of Alberta until her retirement in 1987. During that time, she was elected representative to AUPE for Southeastern Alberta and served as secretary. She chaired the first International Women’s Conference for the Government of Alberta. After retiring she moved to Mesa, Arizona where she met and married Milton Barker (deceased 1997). In 2006, she returned to Medicine Hat where she lived at Grandview Villa, Chinook Village and recently Masterpiece Southlands. We would like to thank Masterpiece Southlands for the lovely care and attention given to our mother in her final days. A private funeral mass was held.
