Youth 12-17 able to be immunized at COVID-19 walk-in clinics

Jul 13, 2021 | 2:17 PM

Vaccine clinic sites in the South Zone are now allowing youth born from 2004-2009 to get their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment.

Alberta Health Services has updated its immunization page to include Youth Clinics in Medicine Hat, Bow Island, Oyen and other southern Alberta communities. These youth clinics are in addition to the COVID-19 vaccine clinics ongoing for adults. The hours for walk-ins are 9 a.m.-3 p.m., daily, until further notice.

Full clinic details including locations, dates and operating hours are available here.

The Pfizer – BioNTech vaccine has been authorized for people 12 years and older. The Moderna vaccine is currently only authorized for people 18 years of age or older.

AHS says it is preferred parents provide verbal consent in person at the immunization clinic. If a parent or guardian is unable to attend the appointment, youth must bring a signed consent form which can be downloaded from the AHS website. In circumstances where a minor does not have a signed consent form but is deemed mature by the attending immunizer, parental consent may not be required.

Attendees to the clinic are asked to bring their Alberta Health Care card if they have one, along with photo ID. Wearing a face mask and using hand sanitizer when visiting the site for your immunization will be required.
