MEDICINE HAT, AB – Going into what’s expected to be Medicine Hat’s hottest two days of the heat wave in western Canada, the city says all of its power generating units are performing well with no issues.
Typically at this time of year, the average electrical load is around 160 megawatts (MW).
Due to the current heat wave the city is seeing peaks of 175 MW, still far below the power generation capability of 240 MW in the summer months.
Even with that extra capacity room, Hatters can help eliminate stress on the power grid by limiting power usage from 5-7 p.m. each evening, especially with high energy draw items like ovens, electric vehicle chargers and air conditioners.
