The Best

“If we can’t be the best at it, then why are we doing it at all?”
This quote is from the book Good to Great by Jim Collins and, respectfully Jim, I couldn’t disagree more.

Sure there are places for being ‘the best’ but in my opinion they are few and far between. And hey, if you want to be ‘the best’ who am I to stop you – be my guest, I will cheer you on!

But…

Here, from the Steph files, are my Top 10 thoughts on why being ‘the best’ isn’t necessarily the best.

10- What the hell is ‘the best’ anyway?
9- If we wait to be the best, most of us wouldn’t do anything.
8- Learning can be fun, interesting, thought provoking.
7- ‘The Best’ can be subjective, personal, different.
6- Much growth occurs outside of doing what you are ‘best’ at.
5- If you are not ‘the best’ you give others an opportunity to shine.
4- It keeps you humble.
3- There is a lot less pressure.
2- You are less intimidating to others.
1- Insert your thought here!

Having said all that I believe being your best as opposed to being ‘the best’ is a whole different ball game. Striving to give your best and understanding that your best changes constantly seems to me to be a much more gentle and realistic way to go through life.

Giving my best in this particular moment in time, considering everything else that is going on in my life, is good enough for me.

Next week my e-news might be better, then again it might be worse. But right now, this is the best I’ve got! It will be good enough for some and not for others and it’s really none of my business what they think after I put my best out there.

Stepping into your best and being OK with that, it’s just one more way to live Your Life, Unlimited!
