Five southern Albertan communities get funding for asset management

COALDALE, AB – The federal government is assisting 21 Albertan communities in updating their asset management practices.

The funding through the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP) is meant to reflect the new physical, social, and economic realities presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jim Carr, Special Representative for the Prairies, says a total of $985,000 is being dolled out.

“The 21 projects announced today ensure Alberta municipalities have the tools and technology necessary to make well-informed decisions for the long term. We’re proud to invest in infrastructure asset management projects that will help communities grow their local economy and improve residents’ quality of life.”

The local communities getting funding include:

  • Town of Coaldale:
    • $50,000
    • Asset management training, development, and implementation
  • Village of Foremost
    • $49,500
    • Geospatial Information System (GIS) asset inventory, asset replacement forecast, roadmap, and software needs assessment
  • County of Forty Mile No. 8
    • $49,500
    • Geospatial Information System (GIS) asset inventory, asset replacement forecast, roadmap, and software needs assessment
  • Town of Bow Island
    • $49,500
    • Geospatial Information System (GIS) asset inventory, asset replacement forecast, roadmap, and software needs assessment
  • Town of Claresholm
    • $50,000
    • Asset management framework and system project

Joanne Vanderheyden, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), says this funding announcement will help municipalities, especially small and rural ones, manage their infrastructure and make stronger investment decisions based on reliable data.

“FCM supports communities from coast to coast to coast by providing funding, training, and resources to develop sustainable solutions that work and improve the quality of life for residents.”
