Lynn Hazelaar
September 20, 1929 ~ June 1, 2021
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Lynn (Oma) Hazelaar, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the age of 91 years. Lynn was born to Jan and Niesje Bronk on September 20, 1929. She was the sixth of seven children. Lynn witnessed incredible changes to her world, having been a young teen during WWII. After the war, she met Rex Hazelaar and were married before bravely immigrating to Canada. Once in Canada they settled in Medicine Hat with extended family. Lynn lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She supported her husband, Rex and together they worked hard to provide for their family and succeed in business. Lynn was a dedicated mother first and foremost. Raising six children on their budget was not easy but her garden was bountiful and fed us all well, as long as we helped her pick the beans. Lynn also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing and loved to bless her family with the fruits of her talents. At any given time her loved ones were wearing beautiful mittens, hats, and sweaters that she had created and have since been passed down to the next generations. Lynn also had a flair for sewing and produced “designer” clothing for all of us to wear to church on Sunday mornings. Lynn was always patient, gentle, kind and supportive and had a great ear for listening and conversation. She had a great wit and enjoyed a competitive game of cards or rummikub and a laugh with family and friends. Lynn especially loved her role as Oma and was the matriarch of this large family. She will be lovingly remembered in the hearts of her children, Harry, Jackie, Margaret, Janet, Pauline and Erica; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Rex in 2006. Lynn was called Oma by all who loved her. We will miss her smile, her laugh and the prayers she lifted up for us. Lovingly written by her daughter, Erica, who is unable to be there to honor her but is there in spirit. Due to current health restrictions, the Graveside Celebration will be by invitation only. The Celebration of Lynn’s life will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat on Monday, June 7, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Murray Jaster officiating. Those wishing to join the family virtually and experience the Graveside Service are invited to watch via live-stream and may do so by visiting our website at www.cooksouthland.com and selecting the View Broadcast button on the homepage at the scheduled service time. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com). Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, Crematorium and Reception Facility.
