DUNMORE, AB – By the end of the day tomorrow there will be 100 more trees in Dunmore than there was last weekend.

Medicine Hat Rotary Club and Rotary Ignite are partnering with Cypress County and the Dunmore Community Association to create a new Rotary Centennial Park in the town.

“It’s celebrating Rotary’s success of a hundred years now in Medicine Hat and region and so we wanted to create a park that has a hundred trees. So that’s the foundation of this,” says Rotary Ignite president Chris Perret. “As we went on we partnered with the county and they provided the land and working with the Dunmore Community Association we’re going to get a whole bunch of the community out to help celebrate our centennial, plant some trees and create a great park for the town.”

The park is located at the corner of Eagle Butte Road and East Seventh Avenue near the high school.

Small groups of volunteers are out this afternoon planting trees and will be back at it tomorrow.

Over the summer a trail will be built through the park and benches and a parking lot will be added, says Perret.

This is the first project Rotary has done in Dunmore but they have previously worked with the county. The trail on South Boundary Road is a result of a partnership between Rotary, the City of Medicine Hat and Cypress County.

Those projects are part of a greater theme of connecting the communities in our region, says Perret.

“Ultimately our vision is to see all the trail system from Dunmore through to the city, out to Desert Blue, out to Redcliff and all the way out to Echo Dale so all the communities will be connected by trail,” he says.

Rotary has had its fingerprints on many local projects in the past 100 years, from high-profile events like the annual Rotary Music Festival to under-the-radar work with schools.
