Lack of trust key in Alberta doctors’ rejection of new deal
EDMONTON – The head of the Alberta Medical Association says a lack of trust was one of the key reasons the recent labour deal was rejected by physicians.
Dr. Paul Boucher says before he and Health Minister Tyler Shandro can even begin negotiating the nuts and bolts of a new deal, that trust must be regained.
Boucher says he and Shandro are meeting again, almost two weeks after the rank-and-file physicians of the AMA refused to ratify the tentative deal brokered by both sides.
The deal was reached more than a year after Shandro tore up the last contract and imposed new fees and rules on doctors.
