1939 ~ James Langley ~ 2021

James “Jim” Eric Langley of Medicine Hat passed away on Monday February 22, 2021 at the age of 81 years, beloved husband of the late Verna Burk-Langley.
He is survived by his children Patti (Dave) Occleston (Langley), their children Rachel, Jack and Emma; Jamie (Erin) Langley, their children Benjamin, Nicholas and Annalise; Andrea (Doug) Hudson, their children Lyric, Harmony, Symphony, Bradley, Ava, and Lincoln; Rick (Laura )Burk, their children Matt (Shari), Jon (Kelsey), Aaron (Stephanie); Kelly Burk, his daughter Jesse Dollimont ( Jeff Kynoch); Chelsea (Don) Geldreich, their children Logan and Ben (Jordyn); his great grandchildren Felicity, Anson, Elias, Aurora, Noah, and Lennon; his siblings, Pat, Harry, and half brother Charlie Stuckel. He was predeceased by his father James Henry, his mother Alean and a sister Bea.
Jim was known for being ever the gentleman, with a smile on his face. We seldom saw anything else from his demeanor. He loved serving coffee and treats whenever company was over, even helping serve coffee to the residents of the care homes he resided in. His love of doting on Verna was apparent to all who saw them together.
He always worked in business and finance, working in banks and becoming the youngest Branch Manager at the time for the Bank of Nova Scotia, as well owning two H&R Block offices, and finally his last business until his retirement, Redcliff Income Tax Services. His ability to work with numbers stayed with him right until he passed away.
His love of computers and that technology had him ahead of his time for years. He was sending “letters through the wires” before it became known as the internet, and long before most of us even knew what that was. He was always fascinated with the developing technology.
He loved a good game of Crib, or Chess if he could find a willing opponent. He was still playing those games as his dementia worsened, and that helped with him feeling a sense of normalcy.
His love of music was always there, and in retirement he started playing his harmonica again; he was self taught by buying books with lessons. The last few years he became quite proficient at it and learned more tunes. Even though he was quite shy about his playing, the last year he became more comfortable and began playing in front of others. This was helpful as his dementia worsened, his harmonica could calm him, and bring him back to his usual happy self.

Jim was very proud of his sobriety of 39 years, and made many life long friends through the AA program.
A Graveside Service will be held later this spring.
