Natural gas up, electricity down this month

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The price of natural gas is up in March while the price of electricity is down for City of Medicine Hat utility customers.

The March rates were posted by the city Monday.

The natural gas rate for March has been set at $4.0875 per gigajoule, up from $2.9300 in February.

The fixed rate for 2021 is $3.50 per GJ.

Customers will pay 7.330 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity, down from 8.704 cents in February.

The fixed rate is 6.800 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The monthly rates are determined based on the average set by other providers in the province.

The natural gas price is in the middle of the $4.0730 set by Apex (formerly AltaGas) and the $4.1020 set by Direct Energy.

The electricity price falls between the high of 7.479 cents set by Epcor (Edmonton) and the 7.125 cents set by Direct Energy.
