Helen Florence Friesen
August 2, 1926 ~ February 17, 2021
Helen Friesen passed away in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at the age of 94 years. Helen’s memory will be cherished in the hearts of her children, Judy Starcke of Calgary, Doug Friesen of Calgary, Karen Seabrook of Vulcan, Linda Griffitts of Roblin, MB. and Kevin (Kathy) Friesen of Medicine Hat; seven grandchildren, Tammy Starcke of Calgary, Darren (Sarah) Friesen of Toronto, Mark (Dana) Griffitts, Deanna (John) Livingston and Curtis (Saigha) Griffitts all of Roblin, MB. as well as Bryan (Kaylee) Friesen and Derek Friesen (Stephanie Gaetz) of Medicine Hat; nine great-grandchildren, Wes and Travis Friesen of Toronto, Ethan and Sophie Griffitts, Janessa and Kane Livingston and Parker Griffitts all of Roblin, MB. as well as Milly and Hazel Friesen of Medicine Hat. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Herbert Jacob Friesen; daughter, Particia Helen Friesen; son, Cameron Lyle Friesen as well as three sons-in-law, Rick Starcke, Mark Griffitts and Mel Seabrook. Earlier in life, Helen enjoyed camping trips to the Okanagan and their seasonal at Pine Lake. She loved playing cards with family and friends, but Helen was happiest when hosting the family suppers on Sundays, surrounded by her kids, with hours and hours of home movies to prove it. She was wonderful in the kitchen with her specialities – chop suey, Flapper pie and of course, her homemade dinner buns. Later in life, Helen spent time watching CFL football and curling on television. She always looked so forward to her day excursion to the casino with her nephew, Jack and his wife, Paula Hurford. Although she didn’t have the opportunity to see her grandkids as much as she would have liked, she loved each one of them very, very much. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff of Good Sams in Southridge. The staff on the second floor went above and beyond with their care and compassion in Helen’s final days and family truly appreciate all of the staffs attention to her. At a later date, a private family memorial will be held.
