Celestine “Sally” Winder of Medicine Hat passed away on January 1, 2021 at the age of 104 years. She will be remembered with love by her children Donald Dirk and Diane (Murray) McCartney, daughter-in-law Marjorie Dirk, grandchildren Desiree (Bryan) Coyle, Denise Dirk-Feininger, Aaron Dirk, Miles (Kathryn Monaghan) Dirk, Tracy (Janice) Dirk, Dean Dirk, Shane (Nancy) Dirk and Troy Dirk, eight great-grandchildren (and six great-great-grandchildren), Hannah Polonsky, Christina Dirk (Aislynn), Ashlee Poppe (Haylee and Kallie), Justin (Krystin) Dirk (Jack, Nate), Quentin Dirk, Brady Dirk, Krystal Dirk and Theresa (Morgan Carnelli) Dirk (Rowan). Sally was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Herman Dirk in 1983, second husband Julius Winder in 2013, sons Michael H Dirk and Joseph H Dirk, daughter-in-law Darlene Dirk, parents Joseph and Agatha Hintz and siblings Magdalena Franks, Mary Lanz, Kay Pahl, Virginia Hotchen, Peter Hintz and John Hintz. Sally was born December 7, 1916. She was part of the greatest generation, living through the Great Depression and the war years on the farm at Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. She was hard working and blessed with a creative mind and talented hands that allowed her to develop phenomenal skills as a seamstress, hostess and cook, generously sharing with all. After the family moved to Medicine Hat in 1961, Sally began caring for many homes and in the process developed long term friendships with her clients and their families. Family was the cornerstone of her life. Sally was a wonderful mother, grandmother. friend, confidant and advisor who loved unconditionally, lived simply and cared deeply for her family. Sally’s home was always a place for family and friends to gather. Sally lived a long and healthy life and was fortunate to reside independently until she was 100. She appreciated the support she received first at Chinook Village, then at Park Place Meadow Ridge Seniors Village, St. Joseph’s Home and lastly the excellent care at South Country Village. In accordance with Covid guidelines a private funeral mass will be celebrated on January 8, 2021 at Holy Family Parish.
