1935 ~Leno Albertino Tonin ~ 2021
It is with great sadness the Tonin family announces the death of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Leno Tonin (age 85) on January 3, 2021. Cherishing his memory are his loving wife Evan; son, Bruce (Theresa) Tonin; and daughter Janet Tonin (Will Zaichkowski). Five wonderful grandsons and one great grandson were a joy of his life: Brayden (Samantha) Tonin, Austin and Daylan Tonin; Alexander and Nicholas Zaichkowski and baby Axel Tonin who added light to his last months. Leno is also survived by his sister Elsa Proctor of Lethbridge as well as numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents Louis and Antonietta Tonin, brothers Joe and Philip (Banjo) Tonin and his sisters Mary Joynson and Carmen White. Leno was born in San Martino, Italy in 1935 and came to Medicine Hat as an infant. He attended St. Louis School and St. Teresa’s Academy. As a young man he loved to skate and was known for his hockey skills. Leno was a talented tradesman who at the age of forty-three went back to school and earned both his journeyman printer and millwright tickets. Leno was the guy who could fix or build almost anything. A quiet man, he loved his home and garden. During the summer, family and visitors would admire his lovingly tended gardens and in the winter he built furniture for his family. He was a true craftsman. Leno requested there be no funeral and no flowers. A private memorial will be held at a later date. If you wish to honour Leno’s memory please consider a donation to St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice c/o 156 – 3 St. NE, Medicine Hat, T1A 5M1; or to the charity of your choice. Thank you to the staff at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice for their quiet compassionate care of our family.
