Also, his brother Friedhold (Irmin) Brost; Helga’s sisters in Germany, Ursula (Siegfried) Jassmann, Gerdi Neuweiler, Rose (Harry) Siegloch; and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Immanuel and Erna Brost. Born in 1934 in Dennewitz, Bessarabia, Gerhard’s life was marked by travel and relocation. At six years old he lost his Dad in the war, and soon after he fled Bessarabia with his mom, his brother and extended family. After several short-term stays in Eastern European countries, he eventually settled in West Germany where he met his beloved Helga Karr and they married in 1955. Finally, a long period of settling down followed as they raised their three children in Fuerfeld, Germany. One of his careers was to drive long distance bus tours throughout Europe and the middle east. During one of these trips to Israel, he embarked on his personal journey with God and eventually the entire family came to love and serve God. He loved to recount the stories of Bessarabia and his travels and had particularly fond memories of his early childhood. In 1974, Gerhard led the family on a new adventure, this time to a new home in Canada. Soon the entire family, including mom Erna and brother Friedhold with family joined. Settling in Medicine Hat, he returned to his early career in carpentry and soon started a construction company. Gerhard and Helga enjoyed many happy years in retirement with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They eventually moved into Chinook Village, before health issues saw him moved into long-term care at Masterpiece. We are so thankful for the wonderful staff there who made him as comfortable as he could be. He is finally at rest in his forever home. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (Masks are mandatory and a limit of 10 people at one time is permitted in the viewing area). A private family interment service will take place, with a celebration of life to be held when the entire family and his friends can gather in one place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mustard Seed, 503A Allowance Ave SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 3E8 or to Opportunity International Canada 145 Lincoln Rd, Waterloo, Ontario N2J 2N8.
