Fire crews battle structure fire

MEDICINE HAT, AB- The Medicine Hat fire department worked to contain a structure fire Sunday morning.

Crews were called to a triplex in the 500 C block of Maple Avenue at around 10:45 Sunday morning.

According to Fire Platoon Chief Lindsay the fire started on the stove and spread to the nearby cabinets.

“The occupant was good enough to knock it down with a small extinguisher, and then when we arrived on scene our guys knocked down the little bit of flame that was left, and proceeded to make sure there was no spread into the attic space,” he said.

Platoon Chief Lindsay said the incident is an important reminder to watch your cooking and exert caution.

” It’s Christmas season so just be cautious with your cooking and always keep a lid on hand to put out anything that happens to go ablaze on top of the stove.
