Clifford Townsend
1937 ~ 2020
It is with great sadness that we, the family, are announcing the death of Cliff Townsend. Cliff was born in Verwood, Saskatchewan on June 10, 1937, and grew up in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of four boys (Leo, Cal & Stan) who were constantly getting into mischief. Cliff graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a teaching degree, and taught High School for a few years in Saskatchewan and in Ontario, before moving to Regina, then Calgary to teach at SAIT, and then on to Medicine Hat to teach part time at Medicine Hat College. In 1976, Cliff met Linda at a cocktail party in Markham, Ontario, and took on the job of stepfather to her two sons, Robert & David. He was committed to the family, always there in his quiet way, caring for Linda and the boys, and then later on for his daughters-in-law, Yvonne and Susan, and his grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Megan & Robbie. Cliff enjoyed Sudoku, Sci-Fi, hunting, collecting things and camping. He was an avid Ham Radio enthusiast and loved writing poems and stories. His dream was to write a successful screenplay, and actually published a Computer Programming textbook for the Vax Computer System. On a Sunday morning he was happiest spending his time at flea markets browsing through comics and books. Robert & David enjoyed target shooting, building electronic kits from Radio Shack and building and launching rockets with Cliff. They remember a time when they went with Cliff into the Saskatchewan prairie to launch rockets that they had made. They used a launcher that Cliff had made himself and would count down to zero before launching. The rockets would shoot high into the sky, sometimes never to be seen again. After multiple health issues, which sent him to the hospital, Cliff died peacefully in the early hours of Dec 2, 2020 at the age of 83. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Medicine Hat Hospital who cared for him in his final days. We will deeply miss him!
