Nov 28, 2020 | 11:45 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB- A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Crescent Heights High school.

In a letter posted on the school’s website, the MHPSD noted another positive case of COVID-19 has been identified.

An outbreak, according to AHS is declared when there are two or more cases within 28 days at the same school.

According to the school division, some students and staff have been directed to self-isolate for a specified period. All close contacts of the positive cases have been identified and are already self-isolating.

“It appears that the exposure was limited to the class and associated staff and we are confident, based on AHS guidance, that any staff member or student who is not a close contact can attend work and school safely,” the letter read.

The school division noted that while many are working from home, the school will remain open under scenario three on a by appointment basis and the division is following AHS guidelines to ensure students and staff are safe.

Any visitors are also asked to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, and complete the AHS COVID-19 self-assessment or call Healthlink at 811.

” We know that it may be difficult to hear of a rising number of cases at our school and in our community. To this point each positive case that has been identified in an MHPSD school, including all cases at CHHS, have been contracted outside of the school. We continue our diligence with health and safety measures in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

Custodial staff have been directed to perform a thorough cleaning of the school and any high touch surfaces.
