Martha Wilson
1920 ~ 2020
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Martha Helen Wilson (nee Erickson) on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, in Medicine Hat at the age of 100 years. This is a time of both sadness and celebration. It is a time to remember the remarkable woman that she was – kind, caring and loving. Family was everything to Martha. She is survived by her loving children, Rod (Rhonda), Darryl (Elaine) and Myra (Gary) Evert; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Laurence in La Grande, Oregon as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by Gordon, her beloved husband of 72 years; parents, John and Anna Erickson; ten siblings; daughter-in-law, Georgina Wilson and grandson-in-law, James Toronchuk. Martha was born on April 22, 1920, at home on the Erickson family farm north of Lancer, SK., and was delivered by her grandmother who was a mid-wife. Martha pitched softball in her younger years then played golf and curled when they lived in Abbey, SK. She was an excellent cook, baker and made the best buns and bread ever! Everyone always remarked when they stopped in for coffee, that she would go to the deep freeze and bring out a plate of delicious goodies. Martha had a quick wit about her and an excellent memory. She enjoyed playing cribbage and faithfully watched every Blue Jays game. She lived a long and healthy life and Martha’s family was so blessed to have had her with them for as long as they did. Martha’s memory will be remembered with a private family celebration at a later date.
