Active COVID-19 cases in Medicine Hat down by one

Medicine Hat has one new case of COVID-19 and the number of active cases has dropped to 27.

The city’s overall case count is 119, with 90 recoveries and two deaths in addition to the 27 active cases.

Numbers continue to reach dubious milestones in Alberta and daily new case counts remain high.

More than 200 Albertans are in hospital with COVID-19 and there are more than 8,000 active cases.

There are 713 new cases reported in Tuesday’s online update.

Alberta now has 8,090 active cases, up 125 from Monday, and 26,407 recovered, up 581.

Testing numbers remain unavailable due to outstanding technical issues with the province’s reporting site.

There are now 207 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 43 of which are in ICU, and 376 deaths.

There have been a total of 34,873 cases in Alberta over the course of the pandemic.

There are 2,812 cases in the South Zone. There are 488 active cases and 2,293 recovered. There are currently 14 COVID-19 cases in hospital in the South Zone, four in the ICU. The death total in the zone is at 31.

While Medicine Hat remains under the threshold of 50 active cases per 100,000 people for being placed on the provincial “Watch” list, the same can’t be said for Cypress County. There are two more active cases for a total of 30, and a rate of 267.4.

The County of Forty Mile is also on the “Watch” list since last week and has a current rate of 419 and 27 active cases.

An outbreak was declared at Burdett School last week.

Brooks and the County of Newell are on the list with rates and active case counts of 259.1 and 50 in the city and 259.5 and 21 in the surrounding county.

An outbreak was declared at Brooks Composite High School on Sunday.

There are also outbreaks or cases connected to Eastbrook Elementary School and Brooks Junior High School, Duchess School, Rosemary School, Bassano School and Duchess School, as well as the Brooks Campus of Medicine Hat College.

Brooks was a hotspot for the virus in the spring with more than 1,000 active cases at the time.

Elsewhere in Alberta, Lethbridge is on the “Watch” list with a rate of 198 and 196 active cases, while Lethbridge County and 281.4 and 71 active cases.

The MD of Taber is on the list with a rate of 180.2 and 34 active cases.

On Tuesday there are 157 schools in the province where outbreaks have been declared. Alberta Health’s threshold for declaring an outbreak in school is two cases being in a school while infectious within 14 days.

Eastbrook Elementary School in Brooks is on the school “Watch” list.

Crestwood School in Medicine Hat, Brooks Junior High School and Bassano School are currently on the outbreak list.

The website Support Our Students is tracking instances of cases in schools across the province. Prairie Alternative Mennonite School and Brooks Composite High School were added over the weekend.

Cypress County has totaled 68 cases – 30 active cases and the rest recovered.

The County of Forty Mile has 73 total cases. There are 27 active cases and the rest are recovered.

The MD of Taber has 89 total cases — 34 active cases and the rest recovered.

Special Areas No. 2 has 17 total cases – all recovered.

Brooks has 1,2,18 total cases — 50 active and 1,158 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 10 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 69 cases — 21 active cases, 46 recovered and there have been two deaths.

The County of Warner has 80 total cases. There are eight active cases, 71 are recovered cases and there has been one death in the county.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 678 cases. There are 196 active cases, 477 recovered and there have been five deaths. Lethbridge County has 207 cases, 71 active cases, 135 recovered and there has been one death.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Nov. 9, 2020.”

Saskatchewan reported 127 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, six in the South Zones.

Saskatchewan has a total of 4,214 cases, 1,305 considered active. There are 2,880 recovered cases and there have been 29 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
