Savour The Southeast showcases local food, producers & eateries

Nov 5, 2020 | 2:51 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Savour The Southeast is a chance for residents and visitors to try locally sourced food and ingredients from farmers, ranchers, and producers.

And it’s underway for the first two weeks of November.

The campaign is in its eighth year and is a partnership with Tourism Medicine Hat and Verge Economic.

At participating restaurants and cafes, just ask for the Savour the Southeast feature.

Tourism Executive Director Jace Anderson says food is a big part of the economy and environment in Southeast Alberta.

“And so the Savour The Southeast campaign is an opportunity for local restaurants to feature and celebrate locally sourced menu items. Whether it’s produce, meat, etc. So we have a list of partner stakeholders, restaurants, breweries, and coffee shops that are featuring menu items on their menu. It’s running for two weeks.”

Savour The Southeast runs until November 14.

“We’re going to eat well for the next two weeks and then the beauty is we get into that habit of eating well and going to these particular locations and asking for these particular menu items. So maybe it will go year-round,” Anderson added.

Participating restaurants and cafes this year include Cafe Verve, Grit City Distillery, The Hats Olive Tap, Hell’s Basement Brewery, Inspire Cafe, Madhatter Roastery, Medicine Hat Brewing Company, Skinny’s Smokehouse, Station Coffee Company, Travois Ale Works, and Zucchini Blossom Market & Cafe.
