MHPS warns of coyotes in Police Point Park area

Oct 29, 2020 | 2:00 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Police are warning Hatters about at least three coyotes who were spotted in the Police Point Park area this morning.

At about 9 a.m. an officer from the Municipal Enforcement Section responded to the report and in discussions with the person who called learned the coyotes appeared to be very curious and not fearful, which in turned caused this individual to fear for their own personal safety and that of others.

Police Point Park Interpretive Centre staff have said they are aware of coyotes in the area. Signs are posted in the park but staff are asking for greater vigilance from visitors.

A release from the Medicine Hat Police Service asks people to please ensure pets are kept under control at all times, clean up after yourself and pets, and please give nature the space and respect it demands. Fish and Wildlife have been notified of the situation.

For sightings and/or further information, please contact Alberta Fish and Wildlife at 403-529 3680 or visit the city website for more about dealing with wildlife in the city.
