Utility rates released for October

MEDICINE HAT, AB – City of Medicine Hat utility customers are getting a bit of a break in October, with both natural gas and electricity going down.

Both rates went up in September.

The new rates were released by the city on Thursday.

The natural gas rate for the month is set at $2.2560 per gigajoule, down from $2.5885 in September.

The electricity rate is set at 6.197 cents per kilowatt hour, down from the 7.498 cents in September.

The rates are down about 13 and 17 per cent, respectively.

The monthly rates are determined based on the average set by other providers in the province.

The natural gas price is in the middle of the $2.510 set by Direct Energy and the $2.610 set by AltaGas.

The electricity price falls between the high of 6.548 cents set by Epcor (Edmonton) and the 5.852 cents set by Direct Energy.
